Exhaust Leak & Muffler Repair Near You
Your exhaust system does more than quiet the engine. It carries combustion gases away from the cabin, controls emissions, and affects how the engine breathes. When a pipe rusts through or a muffler fails, you get noise first — but the real concern is what’s leaking and where it’s going.
At Midas Fairhaven we inspect and repair the full exhaust system on Huttleston Ave: manifold and gasket leaks, flex pipes, mid-pipes, resonators, mufflers, tailpipes, hangers and catalytic converters. Every exhaust job starts with putting the vehicle on a lift and tracing the actual source of the noise or leak, because the loud part isn’t always the broken part.
Salt is the main enemy here. Winters on the SouthCoast put brine on the road for months, and exhaust components sit directly in the spray. Rust-through on pipes and hangers is the most common exhaust failure we see on vehicles in this area.
Walk-ins are welcome. Appointments are recommended and easy to schedule—call us at (508) 858-5722 or book online below.
Qualifying mufflers installed at any Midas location are covered for as long as you own your vehicle—at any Midas nationwide.

Signs Your Exhaust System Needs Service Now
Exhaust problems announce themselves. If you’re noticing any of these around Fairhaven, Acushnet or New Bedford, bring your vehicle in for a free inspection.
Road salt is hard on exhaust systems. Months of winter brine on Route 6 and the SouthCoast’s coastal air accelerate rust on pipes, hangers and connections. If your vehicle has been through more than a few New England winters, an exhaust inspection is worth doing before something breaks loose.
Exhaust Services at Midas Fairhaven
Every exhaust job at Midas Fairhaven starts with the vehicle on a lift and a full inspection of the system from the manifold back. You’ll know what we found before any work begins.
Exhaust Leak Diagnosis
We put the vehicle on a lift and trace the leak to its actual source: manifold, gasket, flex pipe, weld seam or a rusted-through section. Finding the real origin matters, because the noisiest spot often isn’t the failure point.
Muffler Replacement
When a muffler rusts through or its internal baffles break down, the only fix is replacement. We match the replacement to your vehicle so the sound and backpressure stay as the manufacturer intended.
Exhaust Pipe Replacement
Mid-pipes, tailpipes and connecting sections corrode from the inside and the outside, especially in salt country. We replace the affected section rather than selling you the whole system.
Oxygen Sensor Replacement
Oxygen sensors tell the engine computer how to mix fuel and air. When one fails or reads incorrectly, you lose fuel economy and may fail emissions. We test before replacing.
Catalytic Converter Service
A failed converter triggers the check engine light, hurts fuel economy and will fail an emissions test. We confirm the converter is actually the problem before recommending replacement, since the codes can point elsewhere.
Free Exhaust Inspection
Hearing something and not sure what it is? Bring it in. We’ll put it on a lift, inspect the system end to end, and give you a straight answer with no pressure.
What Actually Fails on an Exhaust System Around Here
Nine times out of ten on a SouthCoast vehicle, it’s rust — and it’s rarely the muffler itself that goes first. Pipes rot from the inside out as condensation sits in the system between short trips, and from the outside in as road salt works on the seams and welds. The muffler gets blamed because it’s the loud part, but the hole is often in a pipe two feet ahead of it.
Hangers are the other common failure. They’re thin steel, they sit low, and once one lets go the pipe starts swinging and loading the next joint in line. A single $20 hanger replaced on time saves a whole section later.
The one I want people to come in for immediately is any exhaust smell inside the cabin. A leak ahead of the firewall can push gases up through the floor, and you won’t always notice it with the heat running. If you smell exhaust while driving, open the windows and bring it in that day.
On catalytic converters, I always confirm before recommending replacement. A converter code can be triggered by an upstream leak, a failing oxygen sensor or a misfire sending unburned fuel downstream. Replacing the converter without fixing what killed it means doing it twice.
Leak ahead of the firewall — come in immediately

SouthCoast Drivers We See Every Day
The vehicles SouthCoast families actually drive are the Toyota RAV4, the Ram pickup, and the full mix we see on Huttleston Ave every week.
If you drive around Fairhaven, Acushnet or New Bedford, you already know what’s on the road here. The Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V are the most registered vehicles in Massachusetts and we see both constantly. But the SouthCoast also runs heavy on work vehicles — Ford F-150s, Ram 1500s and Toyota Tacomas are regulars in our bays, driven by tradespeople, contractors and families who put real miles on their trucks year-round.
We service all of them. Every exhaust job starts the same way: the vehicle on a lift and a technician tracing the actual fault, not a guess from the parking lot. A 2019 RAV4 and a 2021 F-150 have completely different exhaust layouts, pipe diameters and manifold designs, and we treat them that way.

Locally owned.
Personally accountable.
Not a corporate store — a community shop with a name on the door.
A Local Owner You Can Actually Reach
Midas Fairhaven isn't run from a regional office. It's a locally owned shop led by someone who lives and works on the SouthCoast, and who answers for the work that leaves the bay.
Decisions Made Right Here
Service recommendations, pricing, staffing, and shop standards are handled in Fairhaven. That means straight answers, real accountability, and a team that wants you back next time.
Built on Long-Term Relationships
We're not after the one-time job. The goal is to be the shop Fairhaven and Acushnet drivers call first—for oil changes, brakes, tires, alignments, and everything after.
Invested in the SouthCoast
From everyday customers to community work like Project Spark, this shop is part of the town it serves. When the SouthCoast does well, so do we.
Project Spark
Matthew is an active participant in Midas Project Spark.
Project Spark donates vehicles to veterans and families who need reliable transportation. Matthew has been recognized by the local VFW and community organizations for his work across the SouthCoast.
Matthew Wall
Matthew is a hands-on owner. You’ll find him at his shops, not behind a desk somewhere else. He built the Wall Group on one idea: working families deserve safe, reliable transportation and honest service. That’s how every one of his SouthCoast locations runs.
Exhaust Repair FAQ
Straight answers to the questions we hear most at the Fairhaven shop.
It depends entirely on what failed. Replacing a single rusted section or a muffler is a modest repair; a catalytic converter is considerably more because of the parts. We inspect first and quote you the actual repair before starting. Call (508) 858-5722 or stop in at 178 Huttleston Ave.
In most cases just the failed section. We replace what’s actually bad and leave the rest. If several sections are rusted through at once, which does happen on older vehicles in salt country, we’ll show you what we’re seeing and explain the options.
Depends where the leak is. A hole behind the cabin is mainly a noise and emissions problem. A leak forward of the cabin can let exhaust gases inside, which is a real safety issue. If you smell exhaust inside the vehicle, don’t wait — drive with the windows open and come in.
Yes. Massachusetts inspection includes both a safety and an emissions component, and exhaust leaks and failing catalytic converters can fail either one. If your sticker is coming due and you’re hearing something, get it looked at first.
We focus on repair and replacement—restoring your exhaust to factory specification so the vehicle runs quietly, passes inspection, and keeps gases out of the cabin.
A muffler or single-section replacement is usually an hour or two. Catalytic converter work or multiple rusted sections takes longer, particularly when corroded bolts have to be cut. We’ll give you a realistic estimate at drop-off.
